Saudi e-visa cost for Indian passport holders, explained
What the Saudi e-visa charge is made of for Indian and Pakistani applicants, why the total varies, and where the official 2026 figure is published.

The Saudi tourist e-visa is charged as one bundled amount that includes the government application fee and a compulsory insurance premium, and it is billed in Saudi riyals — so what an Indian or Pakistani applicant finally pays in rupees depends on the card, the bank and the day. That is why no two people quote the same figure, and why the only total worth planning around is the one the official Saudi e-visa portal shows you on the checkout screen.
Eligibility comes before cost
Before any figure matters, the first question is whether the online tourist route is open to your passport at all. Saudi Arabia publishes the list of nationalities eligible for the tourist e-visa, and that list has been extended since the scheme opened in 2019. India was among the countries added to it. For any other passport — including Pakistani travellers reading this — the answer is not something to take from a blog, ours included: check the current eligible-nationalities list on the official portal, because it is revised, and because being told “yes” by the wrong source is how people arrive at an airport without authorisation.
Where the online route is not open, the alternative is an application through the Saudi embassy or a designated visa centre in your own country, which is a different process with a different cost structure.
What the single charge actually contains
The amount you see is not just the visa. Bundled into the same payment is a medical insurance policy issued as part of the visa scheme; you do not select the insurer and you cannot opt out. Depending on how you apply, a processing element may also appear. This bundling is the reason a “Saudi visa fee” quoted in a WhatsApp group is almost always lower than the amount that leaves the account — it is one component of several, remembered without the rest.
Rupees, riyals and the gap in between
The portal charges in Saudi riyals. Your Indian or Pakistani card issuer converts that into local currency at its own rate and, on most cards, adds a foreign currency markup on top — a percentage set in your card terms, not by Saudi Arabia. Some cards also treat the transaction as an international one for reporting purposes. If a friend tells you they paid less last month for the same visa, the exchange rate and the card markup usually account for the whole difference.
| Part of the total | Set by | Where to check it |
|---|---|---|
| Visa application charge | Saudi authorities | Official e-visa portal, at checkout |
| Compulsory insurance | The visa scheme itself | Bundled into the same payment |
| Currency conversion and card markup | Your bank or card issuer | Your card terms and statement |
| Agent or consultancy charge | The agent | Their own receipt, not the portal |
Tourist visas and religious-purpose travel are administered separately
A large share of Indian and Pakistani travel to Saudi Arabia is for Umrah and Hajj, and the administrative routes for those are not the tourist e-visa route. Rules about which visa permits which activity, and under what conditions, are set and published by the Saudi authorities and have been changed more than once since 2019. We do not interpret them here, and nor should any travel site: the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the official visa portal are the only sources whose answer counts. If your trip is for pilgrimage, start there rather than with a price comparison. Our Umrah connectivity guide deals only with the practical side of staying reachable, not with religious or visa rulings.
What approval is, and what it is not
An approved e-visa is permission to travel to Saudi Arabia and be presented at the border. The officer at the port of entry makes the admission decision. The visa carries its own validity window and a maximum stay per entry, defined by the Saudi authorities as of 2026 and revised several times since the scheme began — read the terms attached to your own approval, not a duration quoted in an older article or by an agent.
Agents, and how to tell a markup from a scam
Plenty of agencies will file the application for you. A legitimate one charges a service fee on top of the official amount and says so. The warning signs are the opposite: a guaranteed approval, a price quoted only as a lump sum with no breakdown, a demand for your passport to be couriered somewhere, or pressure to pay outside a traceable channel. No intermediary can influence whether a visa is granted. If you are comfortable filling in a form and uploading a photograph, the official portal is available to you directly.
Refusals and re-applications
The charge is not generally refundable, and a rejected or spoiled application usually means paying again. Passport validity, an exact match between the passport and the details you type, and a photograph that meets the portal’s specification are where most avoidable failures happen. Verify all three before you submit.
Plan the connection along with the visa
Landing in Riyadh or Jeddah with a phone that cannot get online is a bad first hour: your visa approval, hotel booking and return ticket are all files on that phone, and roaming from an Indian or Pakistani plan is billed at international rates unless your operator’s pack says otherwise. An eSIM installed before you fly sidesteps both problems — it activates on arrival with no shop visit and no local SIM registration. How eSIM works in Saudi Arabia explains coverage and setup, and current options are listed on the pricing page.
In one line
Confirm your passport is on the current eligible list, apply through the official portal, treat the checkout total as the only real number, and expect your bank to add its own cut on the way.
