Umrah Visa Cost for UK Citizens: What You're Actually Paying For
There is no single Umrah visa fee for UK passport holders in 2026 — there are two different paths, and they price out very differently. Here is the structure.

There is no single “Umrah visa cost” for UK citizens in 2026, because UK pilgrims don’t all buy the same thing: an independent e-visa booked directly through Nusuk prices very differently from a package visa bundled through an approved Umrah travel operator, and most of the numbers circulating online quietly mix the two. Before comparing figures from a forum post or a travel agent’s quote, it’s worth knowing which of the two you’re actually looking at, because that difference explains most of the confusion UK travellers run into.
Two paths, not one price
The first path is the independent route: a UK citizen applies for an Umrah e-visa directly, typically through the official Nusuk platform, and arranges their own flights and accommodation in Makkah and Madinah. The second is the package route: a UK-based or Saudi-approved Umrah operator handles the visa as part of a bundle that also includes flights, hotels, and ground transport between the two holy cities. Both end in a valid Umrah visa. What you pay, and what that payment covers, is not comparable between them — which is exactly why a single headline number is the wrong question to ask.
What sits inside the government-side fee
On the independent route, the charge itself is narrower than people expect: a visa issuance component, plus a mandatory health and travel insurance element that Saudi authorities require pilgrims to carry for the duration of their stay. Neither of those is a number we’ll print here, for the same reason any fee-based page on this topic should avoid one — components get revised, and a figure quoted in one season can be wrong by the next. The issuance fee and the insurance requirement are the two pieces worth knowing exist; the current amount for each is published by the official channel, not by a travel blog.
What sits inside a package price
A package visa’s total cost is a different animal entirely, because the visa fee is only one line inside it. The bulk of what you’re paying for is flights, hotel nights in Makkah and Madinah (and how close those hotels sit to the Haram matters enormously to the price), coach transport between cities, and the operator’s own service margin. Two UK travellers can hold the same visa type and pay noticeably different totals simply because one booked a hotel steps from the Haram and the other booked further out — the visa line is the smallest and most stable part of that comparison, not the largest.
The two paths, side by side
| Independent Nusuk e-visa | Package through an operator | |
|---|---|---|
| What the price covers | Visa issuance + mandatory insurance only | Visa, flights, hotels, ground transport, service fee |
| Who books flights and hotels | You, separately | The operator, as part of the bundle |
| Where the current fee is published | Nusuk / Ministry of Hajj and Umrah | The operator’s own quote, which bundles it in |
| Price varies mainly by | The insurance and issuance components, rarely | Hotel distance from the Haram, flight dates, room occupancy |
Why we’re not giving you a number, and where the real one is
This page won’t quote a fee for either path, and that’s a deliberate choice rather than an oversight: Saudi visa and insurance fee structures have changed more than once in recent years, currency conversion from Saudi riyals adds its own drift, and a number that was accurate when written can be wrong by the time you read it. The figure that matters is the one published right now, for the 2026 / 1448H season, by Nusuk or Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah — those are the only two sources worth treating as current. A travel agent’s quote for a package is a real number for that specific booking, but it is not the “visa cost” in isolation, and it’s worth asking your operator to break the bundle apart if you want to see the visa component on its own.
Before you book: checks that matter more than the price
A few things catch UK travellers out more often than the fee itself. Passport validity is one — Saudi visa rules have historically required a minimum number of months of validity remaining beyond your travel dates, so check your own passport’s expiry against your planned trip, not against a general rule you half-remember. Health requirements are another: Saudi authorities have long required pilgrims to carry a vaccination certificate for meningococcal disease (ACWY) before entry for Umrah and Hajj, among other health conditions that are reviewed each season. Confirm the current requirement with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah or your GP’s travel clinic rather than assuming last year’s rule still applies — it’s a far more common reason for a delayed trip than the visa fee itself.
It’s also worth separating this visa category from a general Saudi visit before comparing prices at all. An Umrah visa is tied to the pilgrimage and the religious sites in Makkah and Madinah; a standard Saudi tourist eVisa is a different category with different conditions, even for a traveller combining a pilgrimage with other sightseeing. Mixing up which category a quoted fee belongs to is a common reason the numbers people share online stop making sense to each other.
Staying reachable once you land
None of the above changes once you’re through immigration in Jeddah, Madinah, or wherever you land — you still need a working data connection from the moment you arrive, whether that’s for Nusuk’s own app, maps between your hotel and the Haram, or a video call home during the trip. Install the eSIM app before you fly rather than on arrival: it lets you buy your Saudi data plan and get it running in advance, so there’s nothing left to set up once you’re juggling bags, a hotel check-in, and prayer times on your first day. Our setup guides walk through installing it phone by phone, and the pricing page has plans sized for a short Umrah trip versus a longer stay. If you’re weighing Umrah against a general Saudi tourist visit, our eVisa cost guide for UK travellers covers that separate visa category, and our Umrah eSIM guide goes deeper on connectivity specifically for the pilgrimage itself.
